Jeff, Donny & Stevie: Every Escape Jeff Character
Escape Jeff currently has three playable characters: Jeff, Donny, and Stevie. You start with Jeff; Donny and Stevie are unlocked in the in-game shop, either with Files you collect by playing or with a small one-time purchase. New characters are added over time — the news page announces each one.
Jeff — the original runner
Jeff is the island's most wanted man and the character every player starts with. Spiky energy, cartoon grin, permanently one step ahead of the police. Everything in the game is tuned around Jeff first: if you're learning the game or chasing a high score, there is no reason to wait for an unlock — Jeff is fully capable out of the box.
Donny — the loud one
Donny is the first unlockable character: bigger presence, bigger hair, and a run animation with real swagger. He brings his own look to the island without changing the rules of the game. Donny can be unlocked with Files earned from normal play, or instantly with a one-time real-money purchase in the shop (the current price is always shown on his shop card).
Stevie — full speed on wheels
Stevie takes the run in his wheelchair — and gives up absolutely nothing for it. Same speed, same jumps, same slides, same leaderboard. He has his own 3D model, his own animations, and one of the most distinctive silhouettes in the game. Like Donny, Stevie unlocks with Files or a one-time purchase.
Do characters play differently?
No — characters in Escape Jeff are cosmetic. Jeff, Donny, and Stevie all run at the same speed, jump the same height, and use the same controls. The hitboxes are tuned per character so each one is fair to play. That's a deliberate design decision: the leaderboard stays a pure skill comparison, and no one can buy an advantage.
How unlocking works
- Open the Shop from the main menu.
- Character cards show both prices: a Files price and a one-time real-money price.
- Unlock with whichever you prefer — Files come from playing (see the Files guide for how fast they accumulate).
- Tap Equip on an owned character. Your equipped character shows up in the main menu and in every run.
Unlocks are permanent on a registered account and follow you across devices. Guests can't keep characters across visits — one of several reasons a free account is worth the 20 seconds (see getting started).
Which character should you unlock first?
It's purely about taste, since the gameplay is identical. Stevie has the most distinctive look in motion; Donny is the bigger personality. The honest answer: play a few runs, look at both in the shop, and pick the one that makes you grin. The grin is the product.
Will more characters be added?
Yes — the roster grows over time. New characters are announced on the news page when they ship.
